A simple but lovely faux centerpiece for less than $5! You can use this affordable diy lavender centerpiece again and again! This makes an elegant arrangement grouped together or singularly around a food display. All you need are some faux lavender springs, floral foam, soil, and a cute container to put them in. These come together quick for a baby shower or making multiples for a wedding.

I used mine to create a centerpiece and decorate for a Mother’s Day brunch I hosted this spring. Whatever you decide to use them for, they’ll be lovely and ready for any event you host!

What can I use instead of fresh flowers for a centerpiece?

Purchasing fresh flowers can get very pricey and add up quickly to your decorating budget for your event. Not only is the price high, but keeping the flowers fresh and transporting them is a very difficult process to manage without help! Thankfully there are lots of affordable faux options today that offer the same elegant and natural look you want, with ease of use and easy on the budget, too! I was able to find these beautiful faux lavender sprigs at the dollar store! Because they can be stored indefinitely, you can purchase a large quantity ahead of time when the inventory is available and you don’t have to wait until the last minute to source them. Real dried florals can also you used, if you have extras of those, but they are harder to handle without damaging, and cost quite a bit more.

How much does an affordable diy lavender centerpiece cost?

This lavender centerpiece with farmhouse vibes was less than $5 each assembled! A very affordable option when scaling larger, as well! You can make a much larger one with the same steps shown below, but it will cost a bit more, yet still be much more affordable than using real or dried florals.

Is it cheaper to make your own centerpiece?

It is much cheaper to make your own centerpiece, because you can buy in bulk and make many for just a little more effort than it takes to make 1. If you’re going to sit and arrange, you might as well make a few more with all your supplies out and ready! This can save you so much more in the long run! It also has the added benefit to be customizable to precisely the colors and arrangement you like.

1. Gather all supplies

Gathering your supplies ahead of time makes this go so much faster, especially if you are making multiples. You will need the following supplies:

• Faux lavender (or other florals)
• Floral foam
• knife
• container
• potting soil

2. Cut the floral foam

Using a knife, trim down the edges just until the foam can fit snuggly inside the container. Leave some room at the top to cover with soil.

3. Arrange the florals in the foam.

Beginning in the center keeping the center florals higher and lower and bend down as you go out from the center until the arrangement is full.

4. Cover the foam with soil

This is what gives this arrangement the natural look I love. Cover the top of the foam inside the container with a bit of potting soil to give it a fresh and natural look. Just make sure you are careful to not tip them during transport or arranging and get dirt on your nice tables! You could also use small rocks or pebbles if desired.

Where can I buy supplies for an affordable centerpiece?

I sourced all of my supples from the following places:

1. Dollar store: 3 stem lavender sprigs and grasses, floral foam- $1 each
2. Walmart: metal buckets- $.99 ea., potting soil (already had)

Their selection varies and rotates but if you can catch it when the inventory is well stocked, they usually have nice faux florals for a few dollars as well as small conainers.

2. Hobby Lobby

Their florals usually go on sale for 50% off once a month, and they usually have some fun containers in their clearance areas.

3. Michaels and Joanne fabrics

Check the clearance sections and bins often for fun florals, twine, ribbon and containers!

4. Amazon

Not the best place to buy singular items, but you can find some great deals on bulk supplies from containers to faux florals in a pinch. Plus, having it shipped right to your door can’t be beat!
